FAQ
ISIC / ITIC / ISIC Scholar cards be obtained in two ways:
1. At school (school-issued card):
You can apply for a school-issued card if your school is part of the ISIC Schools project and issues its own cards. You can check whether you have this option here. The validity of the school-issued card can be extended, and the card itself has more functions.
2. Online application for a single‑use card:
You can apply for the card through the objednávkový formulář. A card purchased outside of school is single-use and cannot be extended after its validity expires.
The AliveID or Alive card can only be obtained at selected schools. You can read here about who it's intended for and how to get it.
An ISIC/ITIC card can only be extended if it was issued at a school. The rules and method of card extension are largely determined by each school individually, so you need to get information directly from the school that issued the card.
The ISIC Scholar card is not extended. It is valid for up to 5 years, and if its validity expires while you are still studying at elementary school, you need to apply for a new one.
The AliveID card can be extended according to the information provided on the AliveID card page.
A card purchased outside of school is single-use and cannot be extended. If you are interested in a card and your school does not cooperate with us, you can get a single-use card in digital form online.
Schools are currently implementing digital renewal, where the validity of the card can be extended without a renewal sticker, and the new validity period is visible on the card in the Alive App.
Digital renewal currently works at all secondary schools that issue cards. Schools are still allowed to order renewal stickers if they themselves express interest in doing so.
Universities are gradually implementing digital renewal as well, so we regularly update the list of universities where extensions without renewal stickers are already possible.
At the moment a student finishes their studies (graduates, interrupts studies, fails to complete, or continues with a follow-up study program they are not yet enrolled in), they lose their student status.
From that moment, they are no longer entitled to benefits tied to student status – discounts with transport companies, public transport, or the Vodafone student tariff.
However, the card license remains valid, and the card can be used to access other benefits (KFC, Tesco, Alza, etc.) until its expiration.
Yes, the validity of the original card is not an obstacle to issuing a new one.
The ISIC card is intended for full-time students of secondary schools, higher vocational schools, or universities in the territory of the Czech Republic.
The ISIC Scholar card is intended for elementary school students. Students can obtain a school card issued directly by their elementary school. The ISIC Scholar school card is valid for 5 years, but no longer than until the end of December of the year when school attendance ends. Students of schools that do not issue the ISIC Scholar can apply for a single-use ISIC Scholar card. The maximum validity of the single-use card is 16 months—always from September of one year to December of the following year.
A school-issued card can be easily extended after the initial validity period and used throughout the entire period of study or employment at the school. The extension is done by purchasing a renewal sticker for the current school/academic year at the contact point or the school's card center. Additionally, the school-issued card can be used for school entry or in the school cafeteria. In case of loss or damage, a duplicate card can be issued.
A single-use card cannot be extended, and after its validity expires, the card can be discarded. If the card is lost or damaged, it is not possible to request a duplicate.
You can get all the information from the contact person responsible for issuing cards at the school or at the school's card center.
For obtaining ISIC: a color ID photo, identity card/passport, and a completed card application with a school stamp (not older than two months).
For obtaining ISIC Scholar: a color ID photo, identity card/passport of the legal guardian, and proof of the student's identity (birth certificate, passport, health insurance card, etc.)
For obtaining ITIC: a color ID photo, identity card/passport, and a completed card application with a school stamp (not older than two months).
If you order both the digital and plastic card and place your order by 11 a.m., we will send the card by mail on the next business day (this does not apply to orders placed on weekends and holidays). Once the card is ready for dispatch, you will receive an email with the card’s license number and a tracking link for the shipment via Czech Post. The download link for the app and the profile activation prompt will arrive a bit earlier.
Check the Spam and Bulk folders in your email inbox. If the email is not there either, call us at the helpline 226 222 333 or write to info@isic.cz.
Cards ordered online are sent only by registered mail; no other delivery method is available.
Write to us at online@isic.cz, send a scanned copy of the card from both sides for assessment, and describe exactly what the issue is. Your complaint will be reviewed based on the rules of Article 10 of the Terms and Conditions (Complaint Procedure). We will try to resolve the complaint as soon as possible, within 5 working days, but no later than 30 days.
A registered shipment can also be picked up by a legal guardian according to the Conditions for Issuing Postal Shipments by Czech Post (Czech Post will hand over the postal shipment to a physical person who proves they are the legal guardian of the addressee (under 15 years old) or the legal guardian’s authorized representative, and who also presents a personal ID).
Only students in full-time study can apply for an ISIC card. As a student of combined study, you can apply for an ALIVE Student card if your school issues these cards. If not, you can apply for an IYTC card, which is intended for youth up to 26 years old.
Yes, but only if it is a full-time form of post-secondary language study at a school registered in the Ministry of Education's school register.
Since the 2018/2019 school year, we no longer issue ISIC cards for students of foreign schools. We recommend that you apply for a card in the country where you study. You can find more information on the isic.org website.
Students employed as professional soldiers/policemen do not meet the student status according to the Act on State Social Support §12 a) 117/1995 Coll., and therefore are not entitled to discounts and benefits arising from student status and cannot apply for an ISIC card.
However, you can apply for an IYTC card, which is intended for youth up to 26 years old.
In case of theft or loss of a school-issued card, it is necessary to inform the school, which will handle the situation and may issue a duplicate card.
If it is a single-use card issued through an order on our website, a duplicate cannot be issued.
You can send the found card to the address: GTS Alive s.r.o., Na Maninách 1092/20, 170 00 Prague 7 – Holešovice. Send the card by registered mail along with a short note about where and when you found it.
You can order a plastic card at any time for a single-use card ordered online via www.isic.cz. However, we do not issue them to students of foreign schools.
We also cannot issue plastic cards for school-issued cards, as their issuer (and therefore the administrator of the necessary personal data) is the school. In such cases, we recommend contacting the school that issued the card directly.
The digital card can be displayed in the Czech Republic using the Alive App. It is available for free download on the App Store or Google Play. After downloading, you need to register in the app, and the card will appear.
To display the digital card, you can use the “quick action” — press and hold the app icon and select to display the card. Besides displaying the card, the app allows you to find current discounts, participate in contests, or use limited offers available only in the Alive App.
The validity of a school-issued digital card can be extended at the school that issued it. You will see the new validity on the digital card in the Alive App immediately after the validity change is made in the database.
Schools are gradually adopting digital revalidation but still have the option to issue renewal stickers for the plastic version of the card if they wish. Each school sets its own process and conditions for extending validity based on its needs and possibilities, so check directly with the school that issued your card.
Digital revalidation currently works at all secondary schools that issue cards. Universities are gradually implementing digital revalidation as well, so we regularly update the list of universities where extensions without a renewal sticker are already possible.
The digitalization of processes and systems is generally a necessary and welcome change. However, it is a demanding process, and each school deals with it differently, depending on their organizational, technical, and financial capabilities, and at different speeds. We know that the ability to complete card revalidation entirely remotely would greatly help students, so we are working to create conditions for this and assist schools. Some schools already allow online revalidation, so check directly with your school.
The card in the app can be displayed even when the device is not connected to WiFi or mobile data. The card and other products (e.g., insurance) are stored in the phone’s cache for 120 days. If there is no internet or mobile data access, the last version of the card can be displayed in offline mode. After 120 days offline, the user will be notified that an internet connection is required to display the card.
Current operating system requirements are as follows:
Android 9 or newer
iOS 15.0 or newer
Prevention works best here – remember to go out with a sufficiently charged phone and try to avoid damaging it. Just like we used to make sure to go out with a plastic card in our wallet and try not to lose it.
After the expiration date printed on the plastic card, the school can issue a new card to students. For more information about pricing and other issuance conditions, you need to contact the school that issues the card.
If you have a single-use card ordered from https://www.isic.cz/en, you can order a plastic card additionally, even afterwards.
The use of ISIC cards is governed by the Conditions for Providing Benefits, which must comply with international standards set by the ISIC Association. Only a valid card, either in digital form or as a plastic card, can be used for ISIC acceptance or to claim benefits.
During a visual check, the validity stated on the card is verified. For the digital ISIC card, this is shown on the first page (in the case of digital revalidation, it is updated to the new period).
The plastic ISIC card can be presented for visual inspection outside the university (i.e., at benefit partners) only until the end of the stated validity. Since with digital revalidation the validity of the plastic card is no longer visually updated, it is necessary to use the digital form of the card.
As part of electronic verification, ISIC data is checked against the NCDB (National Card Database) or CCDB (International Card Database). The scope of checked parameters depends on the conditions for discount eligibility (card type, validity, age, number of uses, etc.).
It depends on the partner how they have integrated electronic verification. They may verify:
- by entering the card number (including combination with first and last name
- by scanning the QR code on the first page of the digital ISIC card / alternatively, the student scans a QR code placed at the merchant using the Alive App to verify their eligibility
- or by chip technology in the plastic ISIC card (an older method being replaced by QR code verification)
In the case of government-mandated transport discounts, the card check is visual only. According to the Methodological Guideline of the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic, presenting a valid ISIC—either in digital form via the Alive App or as a plastic card—is sufficient. This applies throughout the Czech Republic, for all carriers.
In public transport (MHD) in the Czech Republic, there is no unified system. ISIC checks can be done visually or electronically. In larger cities (Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Olomouc), it is standard to link ISIC to the transport carrier (card, app, payment card). The ISIC holder then only needs to enter the card number along with their first and last name into the system, and the data necessary for the discount eligibility is verified in the background. More information about transport discounts in Prague or other cities can be found on our website.
Some integrated transport systems (IDS) (e.g., PID, IDOL, ODIS…) have integrated ISIC verification into their apps via so-called deeplinks — for example, in the PID Lítačka app, a student can add their ISIC card number. During inspection by a ticket inspector, it is enough to click the ISIC icon in this app to display the card (so you don’t have to open the Alive App separately, but it must be installed on your phone).
Your personal data related to the digital card is safe in the Alive App. During electronic verification of discount eligibility, personal data is not sent to the discount provider (carrier, merchant, or other institution). Only the eligibility is verified against our cardholder database (NCDB – National Card Database, or CCDB – International Card Database), and the discount provider receives only information whether the holder is eligible or not.
The scope of personal data checked depends on the conditions for discount eligibility (for example, the card type, its validity, age, etc.). You can read more about how your personal data is used in the Privacy Policy.
The digital card is recognized by benefit partners in almost 100 countries where the ISIC Association operates. Each issuer (in the Czech Republic, this is GTS Alive) must ensure that its contracted benefit partners accept the digital card, which the ISIC Association regularly monitors. All discounts from the discount database should be provided to the holder of a valid digital card without any problem.
If a discount is not granted, it is necessary to contact us or the local ISIC issuer to resolve the situation.
The ISIC app is provided and managed by the international organization ISIC Association. It is primarily not intended for the Czech market but for use abroad. Therefore, it does not include services that students in the Czech Republic are used to and expect in the app (e.g., insurance, linking multiple cards, use in transport, and many others). When verifying with benefit partners, using the ISIC App may also cause issues because it does not meet certain criteria required by benefit partners in the Czech Republic (see description below for the Alive App).
To avoid confusion with the Alive App, the ISIC App can no longer be downloaded in the Czech Republic as of September 1, 2024.
Alive App is an application developed by GTS Alive for the Czech Republic, and ISIC Association officially recommends this app for displaying cards in the Czech Republic. However, Alive App also works abroad (on Android operating systems in all 177 countries available; on iOS it is not available in Afghanistan, Morocco, Taiwan, Mexico, and Brazil). The user creates an Alive profile, to which they can link multiple cards: for example, if they study at multiple universities simultaneously (a specific card for each university) or if, within one university, they hold both an ISIC and, for example, an ITIC. They can also add ISIC insurance.
Apple and Google unfortunately do not currently offer any technical solution that would allow us to transfer the card with all its security features into their environment.
A plastic card can be ordered anytime for a single-use digital card purchased online via www.isic.cz. However, it cannot be issued to students of foreign schools. It also cannot be issued for school-issued cards, as the school is the official issuer.
The digital card generally cannot be used within the school (it is not compatible with the school's chip system), so within school premises, the plastic card is used.
At the moment a student finishes their studies (graduates, interrupts studies, fails to complete, or continues with a follow-up study program they are not yet enrolled in), they lose student status.
From that moment, they are no longer entitled to benefits tied to student status – discounts with transport companies, public transport, or Vodafone student tariffs.
However, the card license remains valid, and the card can be used to access other benefits (KFC, Tesco, Alza, etc.) until its expiration.

For ISIC annual insurance tariffs, the validity date is automatically set from the day following the day the insurance is arranged (if the insured person is already abroad, it applies from the 7th day after the insurance arrangement date). In this case, the start date of validity cannot be set.
Unfortunately, it is no longer possible to add additional insurance, change the validity of the contract, or change the entire insurance tariff for a valid contract. If you want to use one of these options, do not hesitate to contact us at our helpline 226 222 333 or by email at info@isic.cz.

The contract includes contact information for the assistance service, which will tell you the procedure and provide help in case of an insurance event, as well as the insurance card, which must always be carried with you when traveling. The insurance does not set a limit on the number of trips abroad, but one trip can last a maximum of 45 days under tariff IA/IB or 180 days under tariff IC. For insurance claim purposes, each trip should ideally be documented (e.g., flight ticket, travel ticket, passport stamp, or payment card transaction of the insured person when crossing the border, etc.).

Our aim is for cardholders not to have more than one Alive Profile. This enhances the security of personal data. However, since some users of the Alive App had multiple Alive Profiles created for various reasons, with their card assigned to all of them, we are cleaning the database of these duplicate card assignments. Additionally, starting January 1, 2025, we will only allow a card to be assigned to one profile.
All affected users will be notified via email and in-app notification to decide under which Alive Profile they wish to display their card. If this applies to you (i.e., you know you have multiple Alive Profiles) and you want to continue displaying the card via the profile you last logged in with, no action is required—just acknowledge this information.
You can assign the card to another profile using the Manual Card Assignment function (after logging into the Alive App with the desired email, go to the Cards section and use the "+" symbol to assign the card by entering its number).
Want to know more about how we handle personal data? Read the Alive Profile Terms of Use in the Alive App and the updated Privacy Policy reflecting this change.
If you need to update personal details in your Alive Profile, need help assigning a card, or have any other questions about managing Alive Profiles, send us a message at support@aliveapp.net.
Users cannot change personal details themselves. Please contact us by email at info@isic.cz. Preferably include your registration email and the correct details you need updated, and we will process your request.
Install Google Chrome browser and set it as default to launch this application.
Please check the folders: spam, bulk, promotions. If you don't find it there, you can request a new profile activation after 24 hours.
Please send us a photo of your card, OS version, and registered email to podpora@aliveapp.cz.
Photos will be approved within two business days.
The rejection reason may vary. The photo must meet these requirements:
- Color, sharp, bright, suitable for passport/ID
- Neutral background, neutral facial expression
- Photo must not be taken from another document or ISIC card
- Free space around the head (no cropping of hair/forehead, no headwear)
- Open eyes (no sunglasses or dark-tinted glasses)
- Hair must not cover eyes or any distinctive facial features
- Head cannot be tilted sideways
The photo in the app cannot be changed. If your card was issued by a school, you can purchase a duplicate from the school and request a photo replacement. For one-time issued cards, these changes cannot be made.
Check the spam, bulk, and promotions folders. If you don't find the email there, write to us at podpora@aliveapp.cz with your registered email, and we'll investigate the situation.
The ALIVE APP is not for school building entry, meal plan uploads, or money transfers.
If the app displays the message "An unknown error occurred while processing your request. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact us at support@aliveapp.net and send a screenshot of this error," we recommend first trying to reinstall the app.
If it continues to appear, you need to contact us either at the mentioned email support@aliveapp.net or at info@isic.cz. For easier resolution, it's good to include screenshots and details like phone type, operating system version, and app version in your message.
This is not possible. Only one cardholder can be registered in the Alive App.
Currently this is not possible, however Dark mode is on the list of features we plan to implement in the future.
Alive App Key is a new feature in the Alive App that allows you to open school doors using your digital ISIC, ITIC, or AliveID card if you have it uploaded in the mobile app. Currently, you can use the Alive App Key feature at schools with an access system using Etugate software and hardware compatible with Legic chips. You can find this information directly at your school.
- 1. Check Alive App version: You need to have the latest version of the app installed.
- Open the app: Find the Alive App Key section under the Cards button on the home page.

No, for security reasons, the Alive App Key feature can only be active on one device at a time. Activating Alive App Key on another phone will automatically deactivate it on the original device.
No, you first need to display the card in the Alive App on your phone before holding the phone near the reader.
The ISIC card contains a photo (an important identification element), which mobile wallets like Apple Pay or Google Pay don't currently support. Both are primarily designed for storing payment or loyalty cards without photos. Although we're in contact with Apple and Google, there's no known timeline for when this functionality might become available.
If you can't activate the feature or have other problems using it, contact us at support@aliveapp.net or reach out to your school's IT support.
- Convenient access: You don't need to carry or search for a plastic card.
- All in one: You have all important information in your mobile phone.
- Fast door opening: You can get inside quickly and comfortably just by holding your phone near the reader.
To use the Alive App Key feature you need:
- A phone with Android version 9 or higher or iOS version 15 or higher
- To have a valid ISIC and activate it in the Alive App
- Turn on Bluetooth in your phone
