The Czech Republic is the only country in the world where this extension is taking place. Due to the autumn closure of schools, GTS ALIVE is automatically extending the validity of ISIC, ITIC, and ALIVE cards until the end of January next year. Cardholders whose cards were originally valid until December 2020 will be able to use them until January 31, 2021, for school-related purposes and to claim discounts. However, transport providers will not recognize the extended validity.
The autumn anti-pandemic measures and school closures significantly complicated the issuance and renewal of ISIC identification cards this year. These cards often serve as school IDs and chip cards for access systems. For this reason, GTS ALIVE, the official issuer of ISIC cards in the Czech Republic, decided to ease the current uncertainty for students and schools. “It’s been a really tough year, and we wanted to bring some joy to students before Christmas. So we prepared a gift under the tree in the form of an extension of card validity. We managed to negotiate an exception for the Czech Republic with the international ISIC Association, and we’re happy that we can continue improving student life even in these challenging times,” says Radek Schich, CEO of GTS ALIVE.
Thanks to their practical use in schools, transportation, and for claiming discounts, ISIC identification cards have become an indispensable tool for all students. They are issued at more than 1,000 schools across the Czech Republic, and last year the total number of valid cards reached 550,000. Cardholders can claim discounts in stores, online shops, restaurants, at events, and when traveling. In the Czech Republic, over 2,000 benefits are available, and worldwide more than 150,000.
