There’s an awesome symphonic orchestra in Ostrava called Janáček Philharmonic. True, it’s been here since 1954, but its sound is young and excellent. Just ask anybody from the audience as well as any experts – not only local ones, but from abroad too. After all, stars such as Anna Netrebko, José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, Diana Ross, Lisa Batiashvili, Lukáš Vondráček or Pavel Šporcl wouldn’t have really cooperated with the orchestra otherwise, don’t you think? Also, the list of conductors is just packed with great names such as Mikhail Jurowski, Krzysztof Penderecki, Christian Arming, Libor Pešek, and Jakub Hrůša. In last five years, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava has performed in 12 countries on three continents, including places like New York, Paris, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Beijing or Seoul. Each season Janáček Philharmonic boasts an attractive program featuring giants of classical music, such as Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Dvořák and others together with contemporary artists.
