A revolution is coming for students in transportation—ISIC is an integral part!

Starting in September, conditions for pupils and students up to 26 years old are fundamentally changing in train and bus transport across the entire Czech Republic (excluding public city transport). They will benefit from a 75% discount on the full fare and can travel year-round without time restrictions.

ISIC cards will allow a 75% discount on transportation

The ISIC card has been a daily helper for pupils and students worldwide for many years. In the Czech Republic, since September 1, 2018, it also helps students claim discounted fares (according to government regulation – Decree of the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic No. 02/2018). While children aged 6 to 15 do not have to prove their eligibility for the discount in any way, youth aged 15 to 18 must prove their age, and students aged 18 to 26 must provide proof that they are studying full-time. For both purposes, presenting a valid ISIC card is sufficient.

The validity of the ISIC is always indicated on the front of the card, and in the case of university/school ISIC cards, students renew their validity annually through holographic revalidation stickers. This clear visual check also significantly simplifies things for transport providers.

Around 250,000 students use the ISIC card annually in the Czech Republic.

At more than 700 primary, secondary, and higher education institutions, the ISIC card serves as a school ID and chip card for school systems. Additionally, it allows the holder to access numerous discounts in stores, e-shops, restaurants, on admission fees, and when traveling (over 2,200 benefits in the Czech Republic and more than 130,000 worldwide). Transportation discounts with ISIC have long been among the most sought-after benefits.

Increasing the discount, removing the previously very restrictive rules (travel only between school and residence and only during defined periods), and finally allowing students to claim the discount with the ISIC student card—these are all great news for all students! These are the changes they’ve been asking for. Now, traveling by public transport will be a bit easier, more logical, and more attractive for them again. We’re glad that ISIC has contributed to this,“ says Tomáš Vyskočil, General Manager of GTS ALIVE s.r.o., the official issuer of the cards in the Czech Republic.
